Research Projects

Several FWF and EU funded research projects have been conducted in the field of Electronic Design Automation, simulation of radio frequency circuits, coupled EM/device/circuit/heat simulation, and modelling of electronic devices. A special focus of research is on numerical methods and tools for coupled and multi-physics problems as well as RF design and analysis. An ongoing FWF project together with RWTH Aachen deals with the design of THz devices.

The expertise of ESRG is on mixed analogue/RF-digital simulations, coupled EM/device/circuit simulation, methods for problems with large differences in frequencies/dynamics (multi-rate or multi-scale techniques) for nearly periodic problems, and coupled EM-Heat problems. Moreover, ESRG conducts research in Digital Signal Processing with emphasis on digital filter design with reduced implementation expenditure.

The mixed-level simulator LinzFrame is a modular simulator, which combines system level and circuit level simulation with electromagnetic field/device simulation. The latter capability is provided by the commercial simulator devEM from partner MAGWEL N.V., Leuven, Belgium.

The focus within the EFRE-Interreg Project InterOP lies on the modelling and simulation of linear and nonlinear interference scenarios of heterogeneous transmission standards using the same frequency bands and the prediction of the degradation of the Quality of Service (QoS).
